RYAN and SOPHIE have been married for six years and are now going through the slow and devastating process of a divorce. It is on the same night that their marriage finally breaks down, that Ryan receives a call from his mother, telling him his beloved father has died.
Ryan and Sophie are both shocked. Sophie makes the decision to join Ryan at the funeral. During the wake, Ryan’s mother hands him an envelope, that contains a note from his father, Ben. The note explains that he has left his beloved Winebago RV to both Ryan and Sophie, with the express instructions that they take a cross country trip together.
Ben knew that Ryan and Sophie were having trouble in their marriage and felt that a cross country trip would help them rediscover each other. Reluctantly both agree to fulfill Ben’s last will and take off on an adventure from West to East. The journey opens up old wounds and allows for both to experience emotions they had been covering up in their marriage for years.
Ryan’s dad had carefully mapped out the route for them to take, which actually becomes a journey of change and hope. As Ryan and Sophie discover more about themselves and see that the main problem in their relationship is the unknown.
As they cross from West coast to East coast one chapter of their life ends and another begins. The adventure is often tragic and sad, though the familiarity in each other allows for funny and poignant times.
It’s not the outcome that’s important, it’s the journey you take to get there.
